thought I should keep a list of movies I see since I see some pretty obscure
foreign movies from time to time but find I do not remember the names after
some months or years. So, here is a list, beginning in January 2006.

Bourne Identity - had seen The
Bourne Supremacy a couple years back but had missed this one - so have
ended up seeing the two movies out of sequence. May have to see Supremacy again
soon for it to make some coherent whole in my brain.

happened in this regard. I heard the Miles Davis solo (Generique), on Mel
Hill's great jazz show on BBC Radio
a couple weeks ago and had noted in passing (after a google-search trying to
find the piece) that it was from the soundtrack
of a movie by the famous
French director
Louis Malle -
translated in English as Elevator to the Gallows or Lift to the
Scaffold. What a surprise coincidence then to see this movie on TV (on IFC)
last week - I heard the unique trumpet playing and instantly recognized it as
being THE movie. I watched and enjoyed the movie and not just for its music. I
have been meaning to see a bunch of 1950s and 1960s French movies from the New Wave (to which Louis Malle,
apprently didn't belong) and after. Also read - Louis
Malle talk about the movie (pdf). He is also well
known for the six-hour, seven-part 1968 documentary series Phantom India

different new look but her character was not developed much and her talent felt
wasted. Scarlett Johannson looks stunning as usual but once again, her role was

So, started with the 1st one, which as multi-movie series go is usually the
best one. So, someone explain to me what is the big deal about this movie! I
could have given it a 3.5 but because of heightened expectations and the
letdown, I am not feeling generous.
